Designing a clinical trial is a complex task. To help investigators, the NEI published "Report from the NEI/FDA Ophthalmic Clinical Trial Design and Endpoints Symposium" (2006), which discusses pitfalls and proper methodology to be applied in clinical trial designs for treatments of diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and other retinal diseases.
