Eye Q SM
"Healthy Foods for Healthy Eyes"
Food Certification Program

Not sure what to eat to improve your eye health?
Know your Eye Q and EAT SMART!

The Eye Q food certification program is designed to help consumers choose foods that can improve their eye health and quality of vision. As many as 39 million Americans have eye conditions that can benefit from improved nutrition. Many others simply want to eat better to avoid eye problems in the future.

Our Mission:

To promote a lifetime of good vision by establishing a nutrition certification program that will allow members of the food industry to help consumers to identify the foods that are most beneficial for healthy eyes and good vision.*

Our Goals:

  • To promote the benefits of choosing healthy foods for healthy eyes.
  • To certify the nutritional content of food products and their benefit to eye health based on established scientific standards.
  • To enhance public awareness of a nutrition certification process designed specifically for eye health.
  • To assist all areas of the food industry in educating consumers and promoting the benefits of foods that are certified as eye healthy through accurate labeling and advertising.

Why It Matters:

People with declining eyesight due to age, genetics, or diseases such as diabetes and hypertension can greatly benefit from better nutritional guidance during meal planning.* Furthermore, because the population continues to advance in age, there are always consumers who only recently become aware of the importance of nutrition for their eyesight. We want to reach out to these consumers while they are in the process of shopping for groceries or dining at restaurants, and help them choose the foods that have the nutritional potential to help preserve their existing vision. Just as "Heart Healthy" labeling has helped millions of consumers to identify foods that can lower cholesterol and blood pressure, we believe that "Eye Healthy" labeling can help consumers to identify the foods associated with good vision.
